First Announcement and Call for Papers – International Conference on Functional Linguistics and Issues in Evaluative Language

1. The objective of the Conference

The conference aims to provide a forum for experts, researchers, lecturers and Ph.D students to exchange and share the latest research findings on the theory and applications of Functional Linguistics in general and Appraisal Theory in particular.

+ Pre-Conference: 3 days (02–04 December 2026)

+ Conference: 1 day (05 December 2026)

2.2. Venue: Hanoi University of Industry, 298 Cau Dien Street, Tay Tuu Ward, Hanoi.

3. Languages used: Vietnamese and English.

4.1. Sub-themes of the Pre – Conference

The Pre-Conference workshop will feature presentations by leading professors and researchers in the field of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) from Australia. The sessions will cover advanced topics, including discourse semantics, appraisal theory, multimodal research, and their applications in language teaching and linguistic research.

  2. Recent developments in Functional Linguistics, such as: Appraisal language, Heteroglossia, Register, Genre, Discourse analysis from a functional perspective...

5. Conference registration fees:

+ Pre-conference Workshops (02–04 December 2026): VND 2,000,000 (including workshop materials and organizational expenses)

+ Conference (05 December 2026): VND 1,000,000 (including conference materials and organizational expenses)

- Authors of selected papers (will be published in the workshop proceedings with an ISBN) are required to pay a publication fee (Further details will be announced)

- Travel and accommodation expenses during the Conference are not included.

6. Submission information

6.1. Abstract and full paper requirements

- The abstracts must follow the following template: Mẫu tóm tắt (abstract) - HTQT 2026 (The Organizing Committee will review abstracts relevant to the conference themes and notify authors of its decisions on 15 September 2026)

- Submit full papers must follow the following template: Mẫu bài viết toàn văn (full papers) - HTQT 2026

- The papers submitted to the Conference must be original research that have not been published in any books, journals, or conferences either domestically or internationally.

6.2. Submission deadlines

- Deadline for abstracts submission: 30 August 2026;

- Deadline for full - paper submission: 15 October 2026.
